am designs begins a long-term collaboration with studio henry wilson, becoming the official distributor across the benelux.

the collaboration started unexpectedly, during a motorcycle rally in the alps. over several days, conversations around design, architecture, and materials revealed a shared way of thinking. what began as a personal connection gradually evolved into a collaborative vision, later continued in antwerp.

this way of working reflects the approach of am designs — building relationships over time, based on trust, shared interests, and a common sensitivity to materials and space.

studio henry wilson’s work is grounded in utility. form and function remain central, yet each object carries a quiet sense of individuality. shaped through process and material, the pieces retain subtle variations and a certain imperfection that gives them character.

his practice values longevity. objects are made to last — both in construction and in presence. durability becomes a form of sustainability, allowing pieces to age naturally and remain relevant over time.

materials are not treated as a finish, but as a process that continues over time.
each object begins with a direct relationship to its material — shaped through casting, machining, and hand-finishing. the result is not fixed. surfaces evolve with light, touch, and environment, allowing the object to change gradually within its space.

casting and variation
most pieces are produced through sand-casting. a process where molten metal is poured into compacted sand moulds.
this method introduces a level of unpredictability. the metal flows differently each time, leaving small variations in texture and surface. subtle marks — ripples, pores, tonal shifts — remain visible.
these are not imperfections, but part of the object’s identity. each piece carries a slightly different expression.

surface and patina
over time, the metals develop a natural patina.
this transformation happens slowly. exposure to air, humidity, and touch alters the surface, deepening colour and softening the finish. the object records its environment and use.
rather than preserving a static appearance, the material is allowed to age.

material palette
aluminium
a quieter, more stable material. available in rumbled or polished finishes. it changes subtly over time, maintaining a soft, consistent surface.
brass
warmer and more reactive. the surface evolves through handling, developing a richer tone and visible depth.
bronze
denser in colour and character. it ages gradually, creating layered tones and a more pronounced patina.
blackened metal
treated to accelerate ageing. the surface shifts with use, revealing lighter areas beneath and creating contrast over time.

in all cases, the material remains honest. nothing is concealed. the weight, texture, and evolution of each piece are left visible — allowing the object to exist naturally within its environment
